SAS 9.1.3 Installation Instructions
Step 1: Verify that your computer meets the system requirements
Step 2: On the index to the left of this page, click on “Download SAS (Students)” or “Download SAS (Faculty/Staff)” depending on your usage of SAS. Then read the SAS license agreement and click “I Agree” at the bottom, you will then be taken to a BU Web Login page. Enter your BU username and password and press “Log In”.
Step 3: Click on “SAS 9.1.3 [ZIP file ~ 1.22 GB]”, download the file to your computer. Depending on your internet connection the time to complete the download may vary.
Step 4: Once the download completes browse to the folder you downloaded. Then right click on the “SAS.9.1.3.2013.zip” file and select “Extract All” then click “Browse” then select the desktop then press “Extract”. Step 5: Double click on “Install.SAS.9.1.3.exe” from the folder that you extracted the Zip file to.
Step 6: The language box should appear, select your language then click “OK”
Step 7: Click “Next”

Step 15: SAS will start copying files to your Computer, click “Next”
Step 16: The setup will continue when it is at 85% the following box will come up. Check the box and press “Yes”
* Your computer may warn you of Windows Firewall’s attempt to block some features. If you encounter this message, please select each checkbox to allow SAS 9.1 for windows to communicate on the following networks: “Domain Networks”, “Private Networks”.
Step 17: Click “Finish”
Congratulations! You have now installed SAS on your computer. The SAS license will expire on the date in listed in Step 9. If you are having trouble installing SAS see the Troubleshooting Tips above.

Step 1: Verify that your computer meets the system requirements. Note: The current version of SAS 9.3 will not install on the latest version of Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 users are suggested to install SAS 9.4. A different install will be available to fix this issue in the future.

Step 3: Download the appropriate SAS version from the website. If you are reading this guide to download SAS, you probably only need the Lite version. Click the specified ZIP file link and save it to a location on your computer you will remember. The ZIP files can be very large and it is recommended to download while on campus.
Step 4: Once the download completes, browse to the folder you downloaded it to. Then right click on the SAS zip file (“SAS.9.3.2015.Lite.zip”) and select “Extract All”. Choose a location to unzip the file (Desktop recommended) and then press “Extract”. Wait for the files to extract, this can take 10-20+ minutes. Once the files finish extracting the folder should open and there will be a folder named “SAS.9.3.2015”. Double click the folder.
Step 5: Double click on setup.exe and accept any security warning that appears. A SAS Deployment Wizard 9.3 box will appear and a bar will go across.
Step 6: The language box should appear, select your language then click “OK”

Step 13: Verify that the date is in the future then Click “Next”, if it is not, contact BUMC-IT (617-638-5914)
Step 14: Click “Next”
Step 15: It is recommended to choose “Select an existing Java Runtime Environment” and point it to the Java Runtime that you have on your computer. It will likely be found in the path specified below. If your computer is 32-bit, it will be under C:Program Files. If you do not already have a Java Runtime Environment or cannot find it, select “Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment”. Click “Next”.
Step 16: This is for the Clinical Standards Toolkit. Click “Next”.
Step 17: SAS will check your system to see if it will fit, this step will take a minute or two to complete
Note: you may get a box popup that says the system requires a reboot. The box will have three spaces “Domain”, “Username”, “Password”, if the computer is your personally-owned device, you will enter “.” as the domain then the name of your account and your password. If the computer is a BU computer you will enter “ad.bu.edu” as the domain then your BU username and password (Kerberos).
